Fibre Optic Case Studies
Latest Case Studies from alker
In October 2011 Transmission TX approached alker fibre optics to create a fibre optic solution to link their underwater housing for a HD camera rig using a duplex LC connector.
In 2011 alker fibre optics were approached by Imperial College London to design and manufacture a working prototype to be used within the Research department of Fluid Mechanics. alker's brief was to create a fibre optic sensor assembly which would be used to monitor and measure the flow of bubbles within an oil pipeline.
alker was recently approached by the Photon Counting Group from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh to design an armoured fibre optic FC/UPC to FC/APC hybrid patchcord for their scanning time-of-flight depth profiling sensor.
alker's brief was to break out the 8 core fibre optic cable into micro-armoured stainless steel 1.5 mm diameter tails and terminate with E2000 APC connectors. The overall diameter could not exceed 16mm (to help visualise this 1-pence piece is 18mm). The cable was to run alongside high voltage power cables and due to the harsh environment the breakout required insulation and waterproofing.
